Now here is an item you don't see every day: An absolutely original 50-coin roll of Uncirculated 1902 Indian cents. This roll was stored, presumably for a century or so, in a brown-paper wrapper, stashed in drawer of a roll-top desk. The paper surrounding the coins simply disentegrated with age but did retain sufficient tensile strength not to allow the coins to shake out. All but two or three of coins retain 75% or so of their original mint-red color. Two coins at the ends of the roll are mostly brown; one coin close to full red. Every coin shows a measure of flecking from contact with the ancient paper and general environment. NONE of the coins can be legitimately called a gem. By the same token, 48 or 49 coins are richly red with only one or two having mostly toned. The most toned coin, obvious in the 3rd image, had slipped almost out of the end of the roll and was fully exposed to the air. Certainly nicer Indian cents are available on today's market a "bigger money" numbers, but this 50-coin roll of 1902 coins may be one of the last surviving original Indian cent rolls anywhere.
