Vampire II, 1895
Edvard Munch, (1863-1944)
Fine Art Reproduction
Reproduction Size: 14 x 10 inches
This reproduction is a new, individually printed and proofed, superior quality, giclee* process, fine art print.

Created for collectors, it IS NOT A POSTER or mass produced print on low quality, inexpensive paper.
The Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is renowned for his haunting portrayals of desire and jealousy, the ambiguities of sexual desire, loneliness, anguish and death. Like his contemporary Sigmund Freud, Munch's art ushered in a new age and a new perspective focused on the intense personal feelings of man's inner self. Munch was the first modern visual artist to explore the universal human experiences, filtered through events in his own life. By manipulating color, line, texture, and pictorial details, he reworked his images in multiple print variations, continually renewing their power to express his artistic goals. Munch's prints show his persistent experimentation and virtuosic handling of woodcut, lithography, and intaglio which endowed different impressions of his primary motifs with new meanings.
At the heart of Munch’s achievement is a body of work on love, lonliness and alienation. Its original nucleus was formed by six pictures exhibited in 1893, and the series had grown to 22 works by the time it was first exhibited under the title Frieze of Life at the Berlin Secession in 1902. Munch constantly worked and reworked love and passion themes in his etchings and paintings.
Munch made notes on his earliest sketches for this motif as early as 1885. From his notebooks on Vampire: "He sat with his arm around her body. Her head was near to him. It seemed so remarkable to have her eyes, her mouth, her breasts so near to him...And as he laid his head between her breasts he felt her blood stream through her veins and listened to the beat of her heart. He buried his face in her lap as she lowered her head on him and felt two burning lips on his neck."

**the giclee process produces a superior quality, fine art reproduction from a high-resolution digital file of an image. The file is then printed with a high-resolution photo generation printer on a fine art paper. Most artists and working photographers today use the giclee process to produce reproductions of their original artwork and photographs.
As with any original art or fine art reproduction, it is recommended that prints are framed and displayed under glass to prevent color fade or shift over the years.
